Participant Guidelines
Once the certificate is issued no changes shall be made to the name of the certificate holder. Please take a moment to verify that your name is spelled correctly before starting the training. If any changes are needed, please contact us before starting the training course.

Terms of Enrollment
Upon registering for online eLearning certificate program, candidates agree to the following terms:
- The examinations and the questions contained therein are the exclusive property of 123 Premier Food Safety and are protected by federal copyright law. No part of the examination(s) may be copied, reproduced in part or whole by any means whatsoever, including memorization.
- Individuals verify that they will not share login credentials with other individuals. Training licenses are for the exclusive use of the assignee.
- Individual participation in any irregularity occurring during the examination, such as giving or obtaining unauthorized information or aid, as evidenced by an observation, subsequent statistical analysis, or investigation conducted by Premier Food Safety may be sufficient cause to invalidate the results of the examination or the certificate issued, or other appropriate remedy.
- Individuals verify that they have successfully met the program requirements. If at any time it is determined that an individual has not met all the requirements of the certificate program, individuals will no longer be eligible for the certificate or will have their current certificate invalidated.
- Premier Food Safety reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the training course, and/or to invalidate any certificate at any time, for any reason, without notice or liability, if there is suspicion that an individual has engaged in activities that violate the terms of this certificate program.
- Individuals verify that they solely are responsible for the answers provided on the test(s) and that they were not provided assistance by other individuals.
About the Program
Approved Training Program: 123 Premier Food Safety has received the approved accreditation for the ANSI ASTM E2659-18 Standard Practice for Certificate Programs for the Food Handler Training Certificate Program.
Purpose: The purpose of the Food Handler Certificate program is to equip food handlers in the foodservice industry with the knowledge to prepare and serve food safely to the public and to achieve regulatory compliance with State requirements.
Scope: The scope of the Food Handler Training Certificate Program includes proper training and assessment for food handlers only. It is not intended to be at the more comprehensive knowledge level of the food manager position.
Program Requirements: To register for and participate in the program, individuals must register for 123 Premier Food Safety’s web-based eLearning training, via online secured registration or by calling our office to speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives.
To be awarded a certificate, a food handler must:
- Go through our interactive eLearning training program, approximately 1.5 hours and
- Achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the assessment exam, approximately 1 hour.
- There shall be no provisions for “testing out” of the coursework.
The certificate will be valid for 3 years from the date of successful completion of the program.
The certificate will be made available to the participant in an electronic PDF format to be downloaded from the eLearning dashboard and printed at home by each participant. If desired, participants may purchase a printed copy of their certificate at an additional cost, which shall be mailed to them via standard mail to the U.S. address provided by the participant.
Intended Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the food handler certificate program, participants will be able to:
- Identify sources of food contamination that lead to foodborne illness
- Recognize the 8 main food allergens
- Recognize adequate personal hygiene habits
- Recall steps for correct handwashing
- Identify when handwashing should take place
- Identify correct cooking temperatures for TCS food
- Recognize approved cooling and thawing methods
- Identify correct hot and cold holding temperatures for TCS foods
- Recognize the importance of clean equipment in preventing food contamination and foodborne illness
Qualifications: 123 Premier Food Safety has over 40 years of experience and has provided food safety training for over 500,000 food service professionals. 123 Premier Food Safety holds the ANSI ASTM E2659-18 accreditation as an approved provider for the California Food Handler Training Certificate Program.
All instructional activities of the Food Handler Certificate program, including, but not limited to, curriculum development, exam development, e-Learning deployment, exam scoring, exam tracking, and certificate issuance are performed by a team of qualified experts in the following areas:

- Food Service Operations
- Instructional Design
- Assessment development
- Psychometric analysis
Continuing Education Credit: There are no continuing credits earned for this certificate program.
Certificate Holder Guidelines for Credential Use: The 123 Premier Food Safety Food Handler Training Certificate Program issues a certificate of training to individuals meeting the program requirements, including passing the course examinations. It is not a professional certification or licensing program. As such, individuals that have been issued the certificate are certificate holders; they are not certified or licensed.
When referring to your earned certificate in written text or verbally, the following phrases are appropriate:
- Certificate Holder, 123 Premier Food Safety – Food Handler Training Certificate Program
- Certificate of Training, 123 Premier Food Safety – Food Handler Training Certificate Program
- It is not appropriate to refer to yourself as certified, as in the following: Certified, 123 Premier Food Safety – Food Handler Training Certificate Program
It is not appropriate to use any abbreviations following your name to denote your earned certificate. Example: Joe Smith, FHTC

Complaints: Participants with concerns regarding the assessments, personnel, or other elements of the certificate program are encouraged to discuss these with the relevant individuals involved to try to resolve the matter informally. In some cases, however, informal resolution is not possible, and individuals may wish to file a formal complaint.
A complaint shall be submitted in writing to 123 Premier Food Safety within 30 days of the incident’s occurrence for review. Please contact 800-676-3121 or email info@premierfoodsafety.com to request an official complaint form to fill out and submit. In the case of complaints related to a course or assessment administration, those must be submitted in writing within 2 weeks after the applicable course or assessment administration. The submission may be mailed, e-mailed or faxed. The submission shall include sufficient objective evidence to substantiate the claims and allow for a decision to be made and the appropriate action to be taken. Dissatisfaction based on hearsay shall not be considered as a complaint. Anonymous complaints shall not be considered.
Appeals: An appeal is a formal request for reconsideration of an adverse decision made by a 123 Premier Food Safety Certificate Program Advisory Panel or its representatives related to an individual’s achievement of a certificate.
An appeal must be made in writing to 123 Premier Food Safety within 30 days of receiving the determination being appealed. The written appeal must include the stated appeal, the reason for the appeal (including relevant supporting materials), and appellant's contact information. Invalidating a Certificate: In the event that 123 Premier Food Safety deems it necessary to invalidate a certificate, correspondence will be sent to the individual found to be in violation of the standard.
Upon receipt, certificate holder shall have the opportunity to appeal the decision or provide evidence that no violation of the standard has occurred. The appeal will be reviewed based on the procedures detailed in the Appeals section above. If applicable, 123 Premier Food Safety may contact the employer to notify them that the certificate has been invalidated.
Non-Discrimination: In administering the certificate of training program, 123 Premier Food Safety does not discriminate or deny opportunity to anyone on the grounds of sex, age, religion, race, marital status, parental status, status as a veteran, sexual orientation or nationality.
