The Kids’ Menu is Growing Up

Traditionally the kids’ menu at restaurants has featured options like hamburgers, fries, hot dogs, and chicken strips, often even when the adult portion of the menu contained very different things. All that is changing now as eateries (especially high-end restaurants) give their child menus a gourmet makeover.

This article from FSR explores this growing trend. More adults are looking for healthy and sustainable options, and they want the same for their children.

Some restaurants are taking it further, and giving childrens’ dishes the same beautiful presentation and experience as adults with three course meals and even mocktails.

Other restaurants have gotten rid of the kids’ menu altogether and encourage them to order items from the adult menu, which they then scale to child-sized portions and go easier on the spices.

Kids also take advantage of customizable options and food they can be an active part in putting together, such as the build-your-own-pizza idea from Urbana in Washington, D.C. Kids are allowed to decorate their own pizza with the toppings they desire.

Having creative food options available for children is very enticing to millennials. Consider it for your restaurant!
