That makes a knife sharpener an essential kitchen tool, and there are many options to choose from.
This article from The Back Burner describes the difference between honing and sharpening, and offers a variety of sharpeners to choose from including honing rods, sharpening stones, manual knife sharpeners, and electric knife sharpeners.
Honing rods are sometimes called sharpening steels, but they’re made for perfecting and straightening an already sharp blade.
