While the food service prices are rising, costs of certain foods are going down. In May the CGA Prestige Foodservice Price Index recorded a nine percent wholesale food price inflation which has been the highest in nine years. It has fallen since then to 7%. While meat, dairy, oils and fats, cheese and eggs have risen in inflation, things like sugar, cocoa, and fruit has fallen. The CGA feels the inflation was mainly due from Brexit. In the future prices could continue to go up due to a number of crucial supply issues.

After another delay in enforcing the menu labeling law by the federal government, New York City set it’s own compliance date to enforce the rules. New York City’s date of August 21 fell way before the FDA’s planned date of May 2018 for compliance. Now the City has reached an agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to take a step back and wait for a federal regulation from the FDA to be completed.
