92% of Independent Restaurants Polled Not Using Any Active Shooter Training

Most independent restaurants do not teach their staff how to respond in an active shooter or similar violent situation. A study by the Foodservice Training Portal, completed in January of 2017, found that only 8% of the restaurants have any training in how to respond in such an event, even though the FBI has put out an advisory warning. Food service locations can be vulnerable because they usually have no security personnel and may have large groups of guests. Training restaurant staff in workplace violence and active shooter situations would give them a plan in the event of any of these frightening scenarios.
