92% of Independent Restaurants Polled Not Using Any Active Shooter Training

Most independent restaurants do not teach their staff how to respond in an active shooter or similar violent situation. A study by the Foodservice Training Portal, completed in January of 2017, found that only 8% of the restaurants have any training in how to respond in such an event, even though the FBI has put out an advisory warning. • The FBI warns that regardless of whether law enforcement is at such a scene at the time, civilians often have to make critical decisions quickly.
  • Restaurant owners should consider whether they or their employees know what to do in the first few minutes of a shooter situation.
