Pizza Lovers: Not Who You Thought They Were

When you hear the words “pizza lover” you might also think of words like: beer belly, fraternity brothers, and Monday Night Football. But according to a new study detailed in Nation’s Restaurant News, beer-chugging, football-watching men aren’t the biggest pizza fans in America: women are. And even more surprising is that the women who qualify as “pizza lovers” also tend to work out at least twice a week, totally dispelling that whole “beer belly” image. According to study, over 60% of pizza lovers are women, and over 65% of them exercise twice or more per week, and an even greater percentage of them opt for soda with their pizza, not a six pack of Bud Light. Less surprising is the fact that the fastest growing category of pizza lovers are millennials. As millennials tend to value the social aspect and overall experience of dining out more than older demographics, pizza is a perfect dish to represent their generation. In its shape and quantity of slices, pizza is a meal designed to be shared amongst a table of peers, making it one of the most social dishes available on any menu. And given that millennials have the most say in overall business decisions made, we’re probably going to be seeing a lot more pizza.
