For most of us with experience as a waiter or in the service industry, we have been in this place before. We start off our day cheery and chatty with customers and we get positive feedback from patrons. Then, for whatever reason, a rude customer walks through your door. Regardless of whether they had a bad day or are generally in a terrible mood, you immediately notice that they are a challenge. As expected, they treat you terribly, are impossible to please, and don’t even leave you a tip. After an interaction like this it would be understandable to shut down and be terse with the rest of the customers that enter the restaurant after that.
