This year Taco Bell ran a promotion celebrating the World Series offering free tacos based on stolen bases. Research on this promotion showed that while there was increased traffic to Taco Bell, the effect was 17% less than the previous year. Some markets, such as Houston, saw a greater increase in traffic, but even there it was less than the previous year. No exact answer has been provided as to why this is the case, but it is speculated that McDonalds may have taken some of the market share.
