These Foodie Favorites Are More Than Just Trends

When it comes to food, some things come and go. Remember the era of the cupcake? That was so 2013. But some food fads become more than just trends and end up sticking around for a while. This post from Shiftgig explores some of the culinary crazes that seem to have actual staying power. One of our favorites on their list is ramen. While ramen is no new food feat (the Japanese and Chinese have been slurping it up it since the early 1900s), it’s become surprisingly gourmet in recent years, seeing a revival in mainstream cuisine, as well as some rather untraditional uses (we’re looking at you, ramen burger). One of the most important “trends” that’s seen a rise in recent years is that of sustainable, organic, free-range food. People have become increasingly aware of and interested in where their food is coming from, and what it takes for it to go from farm to table. Again, this isn’t a new concept, but the fact that it’s beginning to gain momentum with the masses is good for everyone, including the environment. Some other foodie favorites? Kale chips, sriracha lollipops, food trucks and cauliflower. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
