For a job that often pays minimum wage, servers are seriously skilled workers. Not only that, the things you learn while serving can help you succeed in other areas of your life. Multitasking, people pleasing, and patience are useful things to know!

For example, you learn quickly that not everyone is nice and friendly, but being able to keep smiling in return, even when the customer obviously doesn’t deserve it, can help you deal with toxic people in your personal life.

Another handy skill is being able to ignore things that don’t matter and focusing on priorities. When you’ve got people waiting for seats, other people waiting for food, and a bill that needs to be split six ways, you handle it all gracefully until the next pile of tasks comes your way. When life throws things at you, you can take care of it much the same way.
