Ways To Improve Restaurant Server Training

There are many restaurant server training manuals claiming to help with becoming a better server. But are they adequate in preparing servers to make highly satisfied guests and make above average tips? Corporations spend absurd amounts of money training up on sales techniques that leave waiters and waitresses frustrated and leading to eye rolling guests. These manuals are being written with an assumption that the servers are not intelligible enough to understand anything more than simple lines to recite to customers. The article makes a good point about the value that a server can add to (and take from) a restaurant where service has become a commodity. It suggests that perhaps the best way to be a better server is to watch people who were. This is a task for servers who are willing to take charge of their own training as the demand for better servers increase in today’s restaurant industry.
