Businesses should remove tips from bills to restore customer trust, says poll

A recent study has concluded that over half of the population is in favor of removing tips. Even a greater percentage believe that all tips should go to the waitstaff that worked on the table. Government regulation is favored by survey respondents.

Key Takeaways:

  • Over half the respondents think all tips should go to employees.
  • Consumers and business executives would overwhelmingly like to see discretionary charges – or tips – removed from restaurant, hotel, café and bar bills and lack of clarity is eroding trust.
  • 84% said the government should regulate this area.
