Waste reduction results beyond the environment

One of our biggest problems today is waste production. As consumerism rises, production rises, and we have more and more things we feel we should buy or take, whether or not we really need them. In turn, this leads to a higher production of waste, and some habits that are truly, well, wasteful. This eye-opening display at the University of California was stunning, and reading about it can give us all some food for thought.

Key Takeaways:

  • how common excessive waste is in our current society
  • how wasteful and detrimental it is toward food production and society to waste food
  • what can be done to prevent it and the measures places are taking to ensure we cut down on excess waste

“The campus was able to eliminate 100 tons of food waste, donate 1,000 pounds of food and divert 650 tons of food from landfills by expanding composting efforts, saving more than $19,000 in food and food disposal costs.”
