Mediterranean Cuisine: More Than Just a Diet

While the Mediterranean Diet is often touted as a healthy way of eating, Mediterranean cuisine is becoming more popular among people in general because of its unique dishes and flavorful characteristics. To some, Mediterranean cuisine includes foods from all nations bordering the Mediterranean Sea, including Asia, Africa, and Europe. Olive oil and vegetables are almost always incorporated into Mediterranean dishes. Chefs view Mediterranean food as a healthy and delicious way of way of eating. Other common ingredients are lemons, grapes, chickpeas, and non-native tomatoes. Rotisserie cooked meats, often called gyros or kebabs, are also a Mediterranean staple.
