One of the reasons why the restaurant industry is so unique is because it is a combination of a lot of different factors. Not only is it a business, but it also is a growing art that ebbs and flows with the discoveries that incredible chefs use to push the craft forward.

Another thing that makes the food industry unique is the materials it deals with. Other businesses, such as financial industries, or even material goods companies, deal with product that is either non-material, or lasts forever.

Restaurants, however, have a constant cost of supplying the kitchen with fresh foods due to both the needs of the chefs and also the needs of the customers to have access to healthy fresh foods! This is why it is so important, however, that food distributors share the honest expiration dates so that restaurant owners can better predict when they actually have to buy more food.
