What Glass Ceiling? Women Now Drink as Much as Men

For as long as statistics on the subject have been kept, men in America have drank significantly more alcohol than women. New reports show that women have closed the drinking gender gap significantly over the last decade. Between 2002 and 2012, the number of women who report that they drink alcohol jumped up 45 percent to 48.3 percent. The number of men who reported using alcohol during the same period actually decreased from 57.4 percent to 56.1 percent. This is good news for bar and restaurant operators, since a greater share of America’s population is now buying booze.
